APPOINTMENT SETTING
Appointment setters provide support to a company’s sales team by calling prospective clients and scheduling appointments for them to speak with a salesperson. They work for employers spread across most industries, especially those with dedicated outbound sales teams. Appointment setters also provide general customer and administrative support. They typically work in a call center or traditional office setting and report directly to a sales leader or team manager. This is an entry-level position, and appointment setters usually work full- or part-time hours. They may also work overtime hours as needed to support the needs of the sales team.
Data Entry
A typical Data Entry job description will include the following responsibilities:
E-mail Management
Editing & Proofreading
The proofreader and the copy-editor are in charge of making sure that the text of any product that involves writing (such as magazines, newspapers and books) is free of any errors, whilst ensuring that texts are engaging and accessible to the readers.
Proofreading involves correcting grammatical and spelling errors, while copy-reading involves looking at the work and fixing any problems with style and tone.
Copy-editors usually do fact-checks as well, making sure that everything in the text is accurate and true. Most publications combine both job roles into one position (in which case, they’re called copy-editors rather than proofreaders).
Copy-editors are usually hired by newspapers. Some magazines have copy-editors and proofreaders, too, but their longer production time allows for the use of fewer people to assess the articles. In book publishing, the proofreaders also do some administrative work, such as coordinating with writers and with printers.
Transcribing
Transcribers carry out a range of different responsibilities depending on the organization they work for. Based on job listings we analyzed, duties typically involve:
Interpreting Audio Recordings
Transcribers listen to recorded dictations to interpret and transcribe them, translating any industry-specific jargon into long-form text, such as medical terminology or legal terms.
Reviewing Drafts
Transcribers review drafts prepared by speech recognition software, ensuring that it’s correct and complete, and making any edits for accuracy and consistency in style.
Identifying Inconsistencies
A key part of this job is to spot any inaccuracies and errors, and to add in missing information within the final report. Transcribers check that every aspect of the document is correct, particularly if they’re in a medical or legal setting, as discrepancies can have a negative impact.
Submitting Work to Clients for Review
Once the work is complete, transcribers send it to the client for their review. If they have any edits, transcribers will carry out the additional work for final approval.
Following Confidentiality Guidelines
Transcribers can work for a variety of industries, from medical organizations to legal practices, so a key part of this role is to follow patient and client confidentiality guidelines.
